HISTORY

Jerome
Couture
and
Corinne
Beyer
collaborated
in
musical
endeavors
as
students
at
the
San
Francisco
Conservatory
of
Music
in
1980
and
were
married
in
1982.
They
traveled
the
western
United
States
and
Canada
performing
as
“The
Haute
Couture
Duo”
for
the
next
two
years
and
settled
in
West
Linn,
Oregon
with
their
first
child
on
the
way.
Jerome
taught
music
in
Public
School
while
Corinne taught private piano lessons.
The
Music
School
was
founded
by
Jerome
and
Corinne
Couture
in
the
basement
of
a
duplex
in
West
Linn,
Oregon
in
1986.
It
all
started
with
one
student
and
by
1992
they
had
outgrown
the
space
with 60 students.
In
1993
The
Music
School
Inc.
moved
from
West
Linn
to
508
Main
Street
in
Oregon
City,
Oregon.
Over
the
next
13
years
over
100,000
music lessons were taught from that building.
By
2006
several
extremely
noisy
neighboring
businesses
and
bad
building
management
caused
the
Couture’s
to
buy
a
permanent
building
and
move
the
school
back
to
West
Linn.
The
house
they
purchased
for
this
purpose
was
built
in
1971
and
needed
so
many
modifications
that
over
200
projects
were
completed
with
continuous
construction
over
12
years
to
get
it
where
it
needed
to
be.
Through
it
all,
Jerome
acted
as
contractor,
construction
manager
and
carpenter
performing
the
construction
with
his
own
hands with help from some amazing friends.
In
2015
Corinne
Couture
passed
away
from
a
subdural
hematoma.
Undeterred,
Jerome
has
continued
the
cause
of
providing
the
highest
level
of
educational
experience
with
the
most
supportive
and
nurturing
environment
in
honor
of
her
life-long
sacrifice
to
music
education
and
her
students.
Corinne
is
greatly
missed
but
still present in all that happens at The Music School.
